Light
Light affects people both physically and mentally. The entire
mood of a room can change just by the type of lighting that is
used in the space. A room must have adequate lighting without going
overboard. There are three general purposes for light; General
(also known as Ambient), Task, and Accent. General lighting is
used to light the entire room. It is sometimes a good idea to have
general lighting on a dimmer switch in order to change the mood
of a room. Task lighting is used to focus on a space that is designated
for a specific task. An example of this is lighting over an island
for eating. Accent lighting is used to highlight specific spaces
for decorative purposes. This can be used over a piece of artwork
or a vase. There are many different types of lighting and you should
ask your Makore Designer to assist you in finding what is right
for your home.
Wall Finishes
There are many different types of wall finishes that can be used
within a space. By choosing different wall finishes you can create
an entirely new look that is unique to your home. Some examples
of wall finishes are as follows:
- Brick: A great way to accent spaces in your
home is to use brick. This can either be faux brick or natural
brick. One example of using brick in decorating is by accenting
a fireplace or chimney. This can help to create a focal point
in a room. Brick has a timeless look with modern appeal. Brick
can make your wall look rustic or old-fashioned and can increase
the value of your home.
- Venetian Plaster: This
style of plaster is a smooth and often shiny plaster design
that appears to have a texture but is smooth to the touch.
Venetian plaster is one of the most popular styles and is also
one of the most traditional styles of wall decorations.
- Marbleizing: Marbleizing can be used in your
home in order to make your walls look like real marble without
the expense of real marble. By using this technique you can add
class and luxury to any room. It is often very difficult for
one to distinguish the difference between real marble and a marbleizing
technique.
- Graining: Graining is often
used to create the look of exotic or hard-to-find woods. Just
like marbleizing, it is often very difficult to differentiate
between the real thing and the faux finish. This is also a
way to save on costs as opposed to over-spending on real woods
which can be very expensive and hard to obtain.
- Colour wash: This is a finish that creates
fine variations of colour using various hues of glaze that are
blended together with a paint brush. By colour washing you can
create added depth to a wall. Colour washing is not overpowering
in a room and it can create the look of a textured wall while
remaining smooth.
- Wallpaper: Wallpaper is a material that is
used to cover or to decorate walls in most of the rooms in your
home. It is not recommended to use wallpaper in the bathroom
because over time it will deteriorate due to steam. Wallpaper
is making a huge come-back in this modern-age and new technologies
have made it possible to have infinite decorative possibilities
as well as easier removal methods. By using wallpaper you can
add colour, texture, and design to your desired room.
- Tile: Adding tile to your home can help you
to create beautiful accents and interest with the endless applications
you can use. Tile is no longer used only in the kitchen and bathroom
of a home. It can be used for a unique design with wainscoting
in a dining room, or as a focal point on an office wall. There
are thousands of tiles to choose from ranging from limestone
to glass, and each one can create a different style and look.
- Paint: Choosing the right
colour for the different rooms in your home is just as important
as choosing the correct lighting. Colours can change people’s
moods, reflect personality, and can change the entire look
of a space even by using a different shade or tone.
All of these options and many more are available to you through
our showroom.
Fireplaces
You can place a fireplace in almost any room in your home. By
adding a fireplace you are adding comfort, warmth, aesthetics,
and purpose. Fireplaces are now available in a wide variety of
styles and finishes. You can have a fireplace in a room and it
can be the main focal point or it can disappear and still be there
to offer you the comforts of having a fireplace. Another bonus
of adding a fireplace is that it can add to the value of your home.
There are different types of fireplaces that you can add to your
home including wood burning stoves, natural gas fireplaces, fireplace
inserts, and log sets. Many of these different fireplaces can be
decorated according to the space that they will be in. May that
be concrete for contemporary spaces, or stone for traditional.
