Marble is a metamorphic, crystallized rock resulting from regional contact metamorphism of sedimentary carbonite rocks, like limestone or dolomite, into a new stone. The extreme heat and pressure causes the original calcite limestone to undergo this metamorphic process and causes a complete recrystalization of the original rock into an interlocking mosaic of calcite, aragonite, and/or dolomite crystal. This violent transformation gives marble its beautiful texture and character, with its large sweeping veins and dramatic varieties in color.
It can be polished to a high shine, but scratches and chips easily because of its soft nature. Without proper sealing, marble stains easily. It must be sealed immediately after installation with a silicone based inpregnator to protect it from staining and acid etching.
The true value of marble lies in its unique vein structure and array of color. Marble adds a sophisticated element to your home. Its wonderful appearance, superior engineering characteristics, and ease of maintenance makes it a natural choice for floors, wall coverings, kitchen, bathroom, and table surfaces. It is extensively used for sculpture, as a building material, and in many other applications.
